I am a mum of four, and my eldest has been diagnosed with Aspergers. I started attending the Peer Support Group before my son was diagnosed, but was showing autistic traits, and it has helped me enormously from gathering advice, being signposted to local agencies / help and most importantly a lot of sympathetic ears ready to listen and sometimes a shoulder to cry on. Our entrance into the autistic world has been a fast learning curve, and has sometimes felt overwhelming at times, but with the help of the Autism Support Group & CAP it has been a much less daunting experience.
I hope that as many parents, and families, as possible have the same opportunity to talk, share, learn and feel supported as I have done and that is why I feel CAP’s work is invaluable for the community and not least for my own sanity!
